Embracing the Promise of Hope and Faith

Embracing the Promise of Hope and Faith

Sunday, June 22, 2025

June 22, 2025

Grace and peace to you, dear friends. As I reflect on the message I shared recently, I am reminded of the profound promises of hope that God continually offers to each of us. In examining the story of the demon-possessed man and the teachings of Isaiah and Paul, we uncover a powerful truth: God's promises are not dependent on our actions or worthiness.

In the time of Isaiah, many believed they were faithfully following God, yet they struggled to accept the prophet's words. They witnessed the rise of the Babylonian Empire and clung to the belief that they were God's chosen people, destined to be saved. Despite their unfaithfulness, God promised not to forget them, preparing a way to restore them to Himself.

Paul's writings to the Galatians remind us that before Christ, we were bound by the law. But with Christ's coming, the law lost its power over us. This doesn't grant us a license to sin, but rather, as we grow in faith, we learn to walk in the ways God calls us. When we truly follow God, we have nothing to fear, for the law holds no power over us.

The analogy of driving and seeing a police officer resonates with many of us. If we are always doing what is right, we have no reason to fear. Similarly, when we are faithful to God, we can live without fear, knowing that our Lord will forgive us when we falter. We are redeemed and forgiven, not because of our deeds, but because of God's grace.

Isaiah reminded the people of Israel that they didn't choose God; God chose them. This truth extends to us as followers of Jesus Christ. We didn't choose Christ; He chose us, gifting us with faith and hope. The law requires no faith, but faith is what our Lord gives us, allowing us to cling to His promises.

The story of the demoniac filled with demons illustrates our inability to free ourselves from sin. Yet, with a word, Jesus cast the demons into the abyss, demonstrating His power over evil. As we walk with Jesus, evil has no power over us. Our Lord has won the victory for us on the cross, taking away our sin, shame, fear, and uncertainty.

We don't need to wonder if we've lived a good enough life to enter God's glory. The promise of Christ is clear: all who believe and call on His name shall be saved. We are saved through faith in Jesus Christ, not by our works. By submitting to Him, we are no longer slaves to sin but children of God, promised the kingdom.

In a world enslaved by sin and fear, our Lord frees us, offering a hope we didn't earn or ask for. This hope reigns eternally with Him in His glory, granting us peace that surpasses all understanding. May this peace keep your hearts and minds in the true faith of Christ our Lord.

Amen.
